Less than 2 hours on a comfortable coach ride, Cordoba is a real gem which is well worth a visit. The old centre is full of little cobbled lanes, and a peek into open doorways brings forth a wonderful array of inner courtyards: beautiful tiles, fountains and plants all giving a cool oasis on a hot day, as well as being lovely to look at.

The temporary archaeology museum is worth a look (Roman, Moorish and Christian exhibits). It has been built over the old Roman theatre, which can be viewed in the basement via walkways. The museum is situated in a lovely plaza - beer and tapas very reasonable, once again :-)

A walk through the cobbled streets - lots of tourist stuff in some places - leads to the Alcazar, and then the Roman bridge across the Guadalquivir (pedestrians only).
